Ah well, today was supposed to be the return of an old favourite to The Other Side of The River. Sadly that won’t be the case and indeed my Post A Day In January experiment nearly faltered altogether. Indeed: I’m struggling to write anything here at all. I believe this is what is called the gut check moment.

As I said at the beginning of the year I’m hoping to stay on top of things a bit more this year and not lose sight of the long game (writing) for the short term. I’ve run into a bit of a problem on that front this week as I’ve discovered I have an optimum operating pressure for writing. Too relaxed and I will just write pulp, too stressed and I can’t write at all. It’s kind of weird because writing has always been a bit of a stress reliever, as well as something I can do more or less anywhere and so to discover there’s an upper limit of stress beyond which words literally fail me is…

It’s not a major problem but it does mean my original plan for tackling my writing is going to need a little tweaking to get round this and for me the only way that really works is to insert regular cardiovascular exercise into my day. Good for my waistline and concentration, bad for my free time. Not sure how I’m going to this but I would suggest the bike may well come out of the shed as that’s definitely the most time efficient option.

Anyway, the inciting incident that led to this conclusion was why there isn’t a comedy post today. Yet that popular feature will be making a return, eventually, although I may need to entice him back with cigars.

Oh yeah, just one more thing…

Brown has had to back down on making MPs’ expenses private. Sweet.
