As is customary on the first day of a holiday, for me anyway, I have been ill.
I spent most of Saturday on the sofa feeling sorry for myself and ploughing through a research book for the next project and then Gene Wilder’s autobiography. There are worse ways to spend your time.
G was out doing a shoot in the evening and so I took the opportunity to indulge myself with some comfort food. I hadn’t felt like much during the day and so when I started to feel better I went a bit mad. One of my favourite meals when I was a kid was burgers and mash. I totally indulged with some expensive burgers and some decent spuds. I followed this sophisticated meal with a tub of ice cream.
Funny, the way food can make you feel better or evoke memories. I still like tomato soup for the same reason.
What are your comfort foods?
Homemade soup – either chicken or leek and potato.
well mine is cadbury’s chocolate I swear I will be getting a year supply to bring back in my suitcase!!! It has been a long year without real cadbury’s! Watch out cadbury shop, I am coming back soon!
Really good very fresh bread and butter
Cornish pasties and baked beans (not authentic pasties, but the Ginsters type). Also hummous and grilled lamb chops (having been born in Beirut, I’ve been eating hummous since, I dunno, 1965 or so).
I also prefer tomato soup – Heinz-type out of a tin, nothing fancy.
And hallo. First time here, but I met you in the evening at Bristolcon.
chocolate!!! not exactly the most original but it never fails!!!!!
Mackies vanilla icecream with a melted Green and Blacks Maya Gold covering. Lovely. Then again, can’t beat a really good bowl of mashed potatoes with butter and cheese. Then there is a whole load of indian food. OMG the pressure. I just can’t choose one. Damnammit
